Our Heritage

Highland Heritage was founded in 1981, although we had started in business well before that when I returned to Oban from sea where I was a Deck Officer with a Foreign going Masters Mariners Certificate. Being in the most beautiful part of Scotland it seemed selfish not to share it or shout about it, so Highland Heritage was founded.

This was an innovation that proved to be a great success. With the first purchase of the Royal Hotel in Tyndrum, then the Dalmally. Although the yearning to build my own hotel eventually came to fruition in 1992, with the completion of the Ben Doran Hotel in Tyndrum. I even designed the layout myself, with the lounges on the top floor to make the most of the great views across the mountains. The grand old Alexandra Hotel on Oban’s esplanade was the final purchase in the Highland Heritage portfolio, which after much renovation is now standing tall!

We are based in Dalmally, from where our fleet of coaches and four hotels are run.  This gives me a good central point from where I can manage all the goings on at Highland Heritage, of which there is plenty.  It also allows me the opportunity to frequently spend time with our guests and sometimes enjoy a tour with them, so I get to hear first-hand how much they are enjoying their holiday.

Of course in these difficult times, we appreciate that every penny counts. If we are to continue to build on our success and keep our guests coming back, the need to offer real value for money Coach Tours is even greater than ever. We continually keep our prices keen, with a strong emphasis on quality and great customer satisfaction.

We are also proud to say that Highland Heritage has won many accolades over the years. This shows the great sense of ownership by everyone involved, which is why we are known across Scotland for the immaculate presentation of our coaches, hotels and superb gardens (on our Castles & Gardens tours you get a sample plant to take home ).
