Muthu Ben Doran Hotel Spring - 5 Days

5 days, 4 nights based at Muthu Ben Doran Hotel in Tyndrum, prices from just £138

This Tour is designed for the early spring days and takes in superb areas of the National Park, the rugged mountains of Blackmount, Glen Coe and Lochaber. The hills and mountains look stunningly beautiful and sounds of wildlife start to fill the air again. We pick up across the Midlands, North of England, Northern Ireland, and also in Scotland. Based at our Ben Doran Hotel in Tyndrum.

The Highlands in Spring are simply a joy to experience.

Based at the beautiful Muthu Ben Doran Hotel in Tyndrum you will visit many places of interest such as the incomparable historic Stirling Castle and the seal sanctuary on the shores of Loch Linnhe – where you will also see otters and other wildlife in addition to the rescued wild seals.

Designed to suit Muthu Ben Doran Hotel’s location and the spring days of March and April.  The pace is leisurely and covers all the beautiful areas from Ben Nevis to Loch Lomond, Oban to Stirling Castle and the Trossachs.  You may choose to take 5 days or 6 days as your time and budget allows. Both are super value and a joy to experience.

Your hotel is our most modern, built by myself in 1992 and fully updated since.  Twin bedrooms are 6m x 4m (270 sq/ft).  Public areas are on the top floor, serviced by three lifts.  Views are magnificent all round and the hotel location is in the midst of your touring area.  A superb hotel in every way with extensive grounds, several ponds and a stream running past. In an idyllic spot, and run by a superb manager with a close knit team of fully trained and welcoming staff.

The local village of Tyndrum also has a pub, an excellent restaurant and a shop for all the holiday souvenirs you can imagine (whisky!!?). Tyndrum has two stations (upper & lower), and is on the main bus routes from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Tyndrum’s main claim to fame is undoubtedly the Cononish Gold Mine which was found over 10 years ago and seems to be getting closer to production after getting planning permission last year. There is gold in all the rivers and fossikers are regularly seen (and chased away!!) panning in the pools. www.connonishgoldmine.

On the historical front, Tyndrum was the site of a considerable lead mining industry in the 18th and 19th Century and in the late 1290s, one King Robert Bruce nearly lost his life when ambushed at the King’s Field just east of the village (Dalrigh). His kilt brooch is still in McDougal hands!! The lead miners dug to within 10 ft of the gold seam but never found it – sometimes your luck is just not in!!

Stirling & the Trossachs

This day we are off to the east and after passing through Strathfillan and Lix Toll, then across and down spectacular Glen Ogle, we arrive in the Trossachs area renowned in poetry and song. Then we press on to Stirling with its castle perched high above the town overlooking the whole of central Scotland. The market town of Stirling has lots of shops and places of interest but above all, the medieval castle is the big attraction.  The Argyll and Southern Highlanders Regiment were based here for all of the last century and it has an amazing and turbulent history.

We return through the Trossachs and normally stop off at Kilmahog for tea and scones on the return journey.  Your hotel’s dinner and entertainment awaits you after a beautiful day.

This tour sees Scotland burst into life with the splendor of Spring. As our luxury coaches tour through stunning countryside, you’ll wonder at the grandeur of Glen Coe and the sweeping vistas of The Trossachs.

Oban & Seal Sanctuary

Our next excursion takes us to Oban with its beautiful bay and home to part of the fleet of ferries, fishing boats and service vessels for the fish farming industry. There are regular visits by gigantic cruise liners and there are a host of yachts and pleasure boats anchored in the bay.  The ferries go to most of the islands in the Hebrides and can be seen coming and going.  There are great views from McCaigs Tower and Pulpit Hill.  The walk along the prom, a joy for everyone.  Loads of shops of all kinds in George Street and a ‘Wetherspoons’ on the pier!!  On the way to Oban we visit the Seal Sanctuary where injured or orphaned seals are taken in and looked after!! Lots of other wildlife, like otters, is on display.  A lovely way to appreciate the local fauna!

Glen Coe, Loch Leven & Fort William (Optional Tour)

This is one of our star Tours and involves the coach taking us north across the County March and into Auch Glen with superb elevated views and with Ben Doran and Blackmount in the background. This is a truly beautiful area and as we wind our way down the glen to Glen Orchy we see the West Highland Line perched on the mountainsides to the east and the two great viaducts above Auch Farm crossing the Kinglas River.  A spectacular sight indeed.  A few miles further down we come to Bridge of Orchy and then to Loch Tulla and Blackmount.  The ascent of Blackmount takes us to a wonderful viewpoint where we can look back across Loch Tulla, Blackmount, and Glen Orchy; cameras needed!!  It is then on across Rannoch Moor and down Glen Coe to the shores of Loch Leven where we take the elevated road to Kinlochleven. The early spring views are spellbinding and this is a really rare and unique treat.  After rounding Loch Leven we travel to Fort William where we can view Ben Nevis and enjoy the shops on the High Street and the local harbour, where the Caledonian Canal starts its journey across the Highlands to Inverness and the North Sea – an engineering marvel of the first order. Home again by Ballachulish with its old slate quarries and grand loch side setting sheltered by precipitous mountains all round.  A warm welcome awaits you on your return to your hotel, dinner & entertainment.

“I had to write to say thank you for our amazing holiday at Muthu Ben Doran Hotel. This was our first experience of touring and we did not know what to expect. We enjoyed every moment of it.”
